Abstract

M.C.Pichitchirapa Devakul’s Savitri is the first musical play script of Savitri story in Thailand. The first performance of this version presented publicly on March, 1915 A.D.  This play script represented two vital images of Savitri, the protagonist, which are 1) a woman who is honest for her love and 2) a woman who is modest. The characteristic of Savitri which were mentioned above are related to other didactic works of M.C.Pichitchitapa since she was a principal of Rajini school. Moreover, morals of Savitri in the Sanskrit literature, Mahabharata, was represented explicitly in this play script. The audiences of this version were Thai young ladies and Thai teenagers therefore, the poet chose directed technique to transmit her thought at the conclusion of the story.
