Poverty characteristics of Isan People in Thai Country Songs of Mike Piromporn

Abstract

This research paper aims to analyze the characteristics of the poverty of Isan people in 184 Mike Piromphon’s country songs by adopting poverty characteristics of Chaded Khotcharit’s study. The study found that firstly, the poverty as lack of resources including income, dwelling, food, and clothes affected most people who immigrated to a big city for a low-paid job. Secondly, the poverty as lack of  opportunities to access education is caused by lack of money to pay tuition fees. Thirdly, the poverty as lack of power can be seen from product price negotiation and low wages. And fourthly, there is the violation of human dignity such as insults,class, and career discrimination.
