The Creation of Thai Dance Performance in Rabam Show Representing of the Rajabhat University: “Rabam Pra Raj Cha Lanjakorn”

Abstract

The Rabam performance was a type of Thai dance performance that was artistic and beautiful in the dancing movements, costumes as well and various dancing deployments. The Rabam had its objectives, one of them was to illustrate the identity of the institute, indicating the particular character of the institute through the creation of each dancing element in Thai dance performance. According to the performance titled “Rabam Pra Raj Cha Lanjakorn” by Dr. Sunantha Ketlek, the performance was created to reflect the identity of Dhorburi Rajabhat University by referring to the colors on the Royal Seal. The blue color referred to the Royal Institute, the green color referred to the place located in plentiful nature, the gold color referred to the progress of intelligence, the orange color referred to the success of the local culture, and the white color referred to the purity of the sages. The researcher took all the meanings of the colors to create each dancing element, for example, the lyric was composed in the form of a Thai octameter poem, the dancing movements were designed from the meaning of the lyrics together with the researcher’s imagination and the costume of lady-court character was referring to the colors appeared on the Royal Seal. Finally, the researcher created the Thai dance performance for conservating, inheriting, and developing the art of Thai dance performance.
