A Comarative Study of Thai and Chinese Idioms with The Same Meaning

This research aims to 1) study and compare the word usage of Thai idioms and Chinese idioms that have the same meaning, and 2) study the reflection of society in both countries on Thai idioms and Chinese idioms that have the same meaning. The researcher has collected 103 pairs of Thai idioms and Chinese idioms that have the same meaning, including 103 Thai idioms and 103 Chinese idioms. The findings are as follows: 1) The Thai and Chinese idioms that have the same meaning can be categorized into 2 types, including the idioms that use the same words and the idioms that have the same meaning that use different words. Idioms using different words are divided into 15 categories: idioms that use words relating to animals that are different types, Thai idioms that use words relating to animals, but Chinese idioms use other words, Thai idioms that use words relating to plants, but Chinese idioms use other words, idioms that use words relating to organs, Thai idioms using words relating to organs, but Chinese idioms use other words, idioms that use words relating to the body, Thai idioms that use words relating to the body, but Chinese idioms use other word, idioms that use pairs of words that have opposite meanings, idioms that use words of different things to compare, idioms that use words about natural, Thai idioms use the words about nature but Chinese idioms use other words, Thai idioms use ghosts but Chinese idioms use other words, idioms that use different verbs and numbers, Thai idioms that use food but Chinese idioms use other words, other idioms 3) Thai idioms and Chinese idioms that have the same meaning as mentioned above can show the reflection of society in terms of animals, natural environment, history, people’s way of life, and religion.
