Clowns In Sepha Drama of Khun Chang Khun Phaen in Episode Plai Bua Kidnapped Nang Wan Kaew

Abstract

This article is a part of thesis under Master ff Fine Arts Program in Performing Arts, Graduate Studies, Bunditpatanasilpa Institute. The objective is to study show performance and dance pattern of clowns in Sepha Drama of Khun Chang Khun Phaen in Episode Plai Bua Kidnapped Nang Wan Kaew. It was found that funny show has existed since ancient times and has been inherited to the present prominently shown in Khon Performance and Layman Pray. Later both shows were combined and called this show “Cham-uat” or comedian show. Then, the “Cham-uat” and funny show were mixed, so, it may be called “Cham-uat” show or funny show. Later both shows have been incorporated into the theatrical performances to create humor for audiences. Distinguished funny show in drama is shown in Sepha Drama of Khun Chang Khun Phaen. This is because the story is long and can be cut into a short episode. Sepha Drama in which clowns appeared apparently is the episode Plai Bua Kidnapped Nang Wan Kaew. The funny show in this episode has specific song and dance moves. It cannot be shown as “Loy Dok” which means to improvise, not fixed or can change in each show. Hence, the clowns in Sepha Drama of Khun Chang Khun Phaen have been popular until nowadays.
