The Usage of Space on the Performing Stage for the Thai Dance Performance Titled Ram Chom Suan Case Study Performance named “Sakuntala Chom Suan”

Abstract

The performance titled “Sakuntala Chom Suan” was the solo dance performance in the model of Ram Chom Suan that the usage of the performing space was different from the Ram Long Song Songkreung or Ram Chui Chai’s models that intently set the performer at the center of the stage. According to the identity of the Ram Chom Suan’s performance model, the performers moved around all over the stage presenting the action of praising the beauty of nature such as trees, flowers, birds and etc. Therefore, each movement was considered by the principle of Thai dance movements such as the movement along with the meaning of the lyrics, the movement together with drawing out the notes and melody and the movement along with Na Pat song. Moreover, this performance model also determined the direction and various space usages conforming to the traditions of the usage of space in Thai dance and the expression of the meaning in performances.
