Creative Design from the Meaning of Colors by Using Thai Dance Style

Abstract

The objective of this research paper is to design Thai dance style from the meaning of colors by using a mixed research methodology of qualitative research and creative research. The research samples were the Generation Z population. The samples were chosen with the purposive sampling method from all regions of Thailand. The research tools included document data, questionnaire about their opinions towards colors, interviews, observations, seminars, information media, and criteria for standardization of praising the role models in the dancing art as well as the researcher’s personal experience. The obtained data were analyzed and led to creation of the meaning of the colors. The research findings showed that the meaning of the 6 colors from the Generation Z group brought about the Thai dance style design as follows: 1) Blue meant prudentialness and calmness presented through the postures of Amporn, Phala, and walking, which were the manner of prudentially movement; 2) Yellow meant liveliness presented through the posture of Amphai, the gesture of using the hands over the mouth that meant singing, and the clapping gesture that represented fun; 3) Red meant hotness presented through flirtation; 4) Orange meant warmth presented through the postures of love and Phamorn Klau represented snuggling and attachment; 5) Green meant being shady presented through the postures of Kung Kan Ron, Kruewan Panmai, Wind Blowing, Bua Chu Fak, Matcha, Kwang Doen Dong, and Yoong Fon Hang; and 6) Purple meant the mystery presented through the posture of Bang Suriya.
