Abstract

There has been a rise in the role of design in government and in public sector innovation. Government organizations co-create with other organizations and stakeholders that leads to continuous engagement in designing through design concepts and design methods for policy solutions. Public sector innovation labs become an instrument in public sector innovation for experimentation and solutions. The article is aimed at describing key characteristics, methods, approaches, and the case of a public sector innovation lab in Uruguay. The article concluded that public sector labs were the opportunity for public agencies to meet with the private sector, citizens, and civil society organizations. Thus, they functioned as innovation creators for policy solutions responding to the needs of citizens and to current complex problems.
