Developing a Self-Direct Learning Video Media for Chronic Kidney Patient in Nongkai Hospital

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the Effectiveness Index (E.I.) of a self-study visual aid for chronic kidney disease patients, determining the pre-learning and post-learning outcomes of using the self-study visual aid for chronic kidney disease patients of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Clinic, Nongkhai Hospital, and observing the satisfaction after using the self-study visual aid entitled “Kidney Disease” for those patients of the CKD Clinic, Nongkhai Hospital.  The sample was the group of 115 chronic kidney disease stages G4 - G5 patients having been treated in the CKD Clinic, Nongkhai Hospital, selected by means of purposive selection.  Tools used in this research comprised the self-study visual aid, an evaluation form of comprehension for using the self-study visual aid and an evaluation form of satisfaction of the chronic kidney disease patients towards the self-study visual aid. 

            The research results appeared as following:

1. 1. The Effectiveness Index (E.I.) of the self-study visual aid for chronic kidney disease patients of the CKD Clinic, Nongkhai Hospital equals 0.4988, denoting that the learning progression of the visual aid users is at 49.88%.


2. 2. The results of using the self-study visual aid for chronic kidney disease patients of the CKD Clinic, Nongkhai Hospital revealed the patients, using the self-study visual aid developed by the researcher, got the average scores in total at 51.48% for pre-learning and 75.19% for post-learning. That is to say, the pre-learning score on knowledge about kidney disease is at 66.67% and the post-learning score is at 87.83%. The pre-learning score on food for chronic kidney disease patients is at 49.13% and the post-learning score is at 72.39%.  The pre-learning score on drug usage in chronic kidney disease patients is at 42.83% and the post-learning score is at 71.74%.  Finally, the pre-learning score on renal replacement therapy is at 51.09% and the post-learning score is at 71.96%. 

3. The satisfaction of the patients using the self-study visual aid developed by the researcher is 4.47 on average, showing that the satisfaction is on the high level.
