Development of the Creative English Communication Skills by Using a Case Study Teaching Method Coupled with the TAI Technique for the Students in Demonstration School of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to compare creative English communication skills by using a case study teaching method coupled with the TAI technique and the regular technique after learning for the fifth grade students in Demonstration School of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University and 2) to compare learning achievement using a case study teaching method coupled with the TAI technique and the regular technique before and after learning for the fifth grade students in Demonstration School of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University. The samples used in this research were 60 students studying in the fifth grade in the first semester in the academic year of 2022 from 2 rooms, 30 students per one room, randomized by multi-stage sampling, from Demonstration School of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University. They drew lots to choose to be in an experimental group and a control group. The research instruments were 1) the instrument used to collect data consisting of an evaluation form used to evaluate the creative English communication skills with the Index of the Item Objective Congruence (IOC) of 1.00 and a test used to evaluate English learning achievement with the difficulty between 0.20-0.72 and 2) the instruments used to do the experiment consisting of lesson plans for English learning management using a case study teaching method coupled with the TAI technique and lesson plans using a regular teaching method with the appropriateness values of the lesson plans of 4.18 and the standard deviation of 1.52 in the total of the research duration of 20 hours divided into 4 hours per week in a total of 5 weeks. The statistics used were mean, standard deviation, and t-test.  The research findings were as follows. 1. The scores of the creative English communication skills of the students in the group learning by using the case study teaching method coupled with the TAI technique after learning were higher than those of the students in the group learning by using the case study teaching method coupled with the regular technique after learning with the statistical significance at the level of .05, and the scores of the creative English communication skills  of the students in the group learning by using the case study teaching method coupled with the TAI technique after learning were higher than those before learning with the statistical significance at the level of .05.  2. The scores of the learning achievement of the students in the group learning by using the case study teaching method coupled with the TAI technique after learning were higher than those of the students in the group leaning by using the case study teaching method coupled with the regular technique with the statistical significance at the level of .05, and the scores of the learning achievement of the students in the group learning by using the case study teaching method coupled with the TAI technique after learning were higher than those before learning with the statistical significance at the level of .05.
