Development of Learning Activity Packages of the Thai Language Learning Group on Reading Comprehension by Using the SQ4R Reading Technique for the Third Grade Students

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the effectiveness index of the learning activity packages of the Thai language learning group on reading comprehension using the SQ4R reading technique for the third grade students, 2) to create and find the efficiency of the learning activity packages of the Thai language learning group on reading comprehension using the SQ4R reading technique for the third grade students according to the criteria 80/80, 3) to compare the reading comprehension ability before and after learning by using the learning activity packages of the Thai language learning group on reading comprehension using the SQ4R reading technique for the third grade students, and 4) to study the students’ satisfaction towards learning by using the learning activity packages of the Thai language learning group on reading comprehension using the SQ4R reading technique for the third grade students. The samples used in this study were 29 students studying in the elementary school in the classroom 3/2 in the first semester of the academic year of 2022, Assumption College Ubonratchathani, Mueang District, Ubonratchathani Province. They were randomized by cluster random sampling. The research instruments included 1) learning activity packages of the Thai language learning group on reading comprehension by using the SQ4R reading technique for the third grade students in a total of 3 packages, 2) a test with 30 questions, four multiple choices for each questions, used to evaluate reading comprehension ability by using the SQ4R reading technique, and 3) an evaluation form with 10 items for evaluating the students’ satisfaction towards learning by using the learning activity packages. The statistics were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test.

 The research findings were as follows.

1. The learning activity packages on reading comprehension by using the SQ4R reading technique had the effectiveness index in the overall at 0.66. The learners developed learning by using the learning activity packages on reading comprehension higher at 0.66 or 66%.
2. 2. The learning activity packages on reading comprehension by using the SQ4R reading technique to develop the reading comprehension ability had the efficiency at 81.98/81.49 which met the criteria regulated at 80/80.  
3. The findings of the comparison of the reading comprehension ability of the students before and after learning showed that the mean score after learning was higher than that before learning with the statistical significance at the level of .05.
4. The students were satisfied towards learning by using the learning activity packages at a high level.
