Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure of Companies Listed in Health Care Services Sector on The Stock Exchange of Thailand

Abstract

The research aimed to study corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure of companies listed in health care services sector on the Stock Exchange of Thailand during the year 2011-2015. This period was divided into two periods, before and after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) required listed companies to disclose CSR practice information in publicly available documents. The data used for an analysis was gathered from the Form 56-1 and the Form 56-2. The results showed an increasing trend in CSR disclosure during 2011-2015. For the years before the requirement (2011-2012), CSR disclosure of most companies was at low to moderate level while it was at moderate to high level for the years after the requirement (2013-2015). In addition, it was found that CSR disclosure in every topic obviously increased after the requirement. Before the requirement, the most disclosed topic was found to be the environment conservation topic while, after the requirement, it was the community and social development topic. The least disclosed topic for both before and after the requirement was the topic of CSR practice innovation and innovation publication. Moreover, the portion of monetary disclosure and good news disclosure increased after the requirement.
