Mathematical Learning Activities on the Topic of Fraction by Using the Multigrade Classroom Learning Activities in the Primary Education level

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) compare the students’ achievement before and after learning by using the multigrade class activity 2) study the students’ satisfaction on the multigrade class activity. The samples were totally 37 students: 17 students studying in the 3rd grade and 20 students studying in the 4th from Nongkaen Primary School, Chanasomboun, Champasak, Laos. The instruments used in this research were the mutigrade learning management plans in topic of fraction for grade 3 and 4 totally 8 plans and length of each plan equal to 45 minutes, achievement test as a pre-test and post-test in topic of fraction for grade 3 and 4 students which be the 30 items subjective test , and a test on satisfaction of students toward the multigrade activities. Statistics used in the data analysis were mean, standard deviation and, dependent sample t-test. The research findings were as follows: 1. The students’ achievement gained after learning fraction by using multigrade class activity was found significantly higher than the score gained before learning at the level of .05 2. On the satisfaction was found that students were enjoyable to work in group with classmates and found the average was at 4.45 which mean high level of satisfaction.
