Factors Influencing Local Political Voting Behavior of Citizens in Tha Sawang Subdistrict, Mueang Surin District, Surin Province

This research aimed to 1) study citizens' voting behavior; 2) analyze the relationship between political and mass media factors influencing citizens' voting behavior; and 3) propose guidelines for promoting quality participation in local political elections. This mixed-method research utilized a quantitative approach, using a questionnaire survey of 400 citizens, derived from the Taro yamane formula. Qualitative research utilized in-depth interviews with 15 key informants, including executives, subdistrict administrative organization council members, administrative officials, and civil society representatives.
The results revealed: 1) Overall, citizens' opinions on voting behavior were at a high level The highest level of voting decision was observed, followed by candidate selection criteria and moderate campaign participation. 2) The results of the relationship analysis between political and mass media factors influencing voting behavior included attitudes toward democracy, trust in political organizations, frequency of information consumption, reliability in news, and the influence of social media. This can explain 59.40 % of voting behavior (R2=0.589, F=115.462, p<.05). 3) Approaches to promote quality participation include: 1) providing opportunities for citizens to participate in community development and electing quality leaders, developing a fair election process, and fostering a stronger democratic consciousness;
2) administering with transparency and good governance, focusing on community economic development, creating jobs, income, and basic welfare, as well as promoting morality and modern vision; 3) providing knowledge about citizen rights and duties, organizing campaigns through various media to reach all ages, and creating social motivation; and 4) providing opportunities for citizens to participate in budget planning and auditing, promoting political knowledge, and developing a strong community economy under the principles of good governance.
