Khab Lan Dance: Forms, Roles and Social Values of Creative Performances from Thai Lom Community Traditions

Abstract

The objective of this academic article is to 1) Study the development  and form of Khab Lan dance 2) Study roles of Khab Lan dance. In this study, the researchers used data collected through participant observations and in-depth interviews. The informants are knowledgeable about the Bun Bang Fai tradition and Khab Lan dance of 6 Thai Lom people and taken for analysis, separate into different issues by using the data were described and analyzed according to the objectives of the study under the conceptual framework of the development and form of Khab Lan dance, concepts, roles and functions of Khab Lan dance in rural sociology and the theory of rural social organization.

           The result of study found that the development and form of Khab Lan Dance has developed from the past to the present from the creation of the community itself and the creation of the academic department in terms of music that has developed a more modern style, in terms of dress has been developed to suit local communities at present, in terms of equipment has been developed and modified to be suitable for the present, in terms of dance postures used in KhabLan dance are clearer and more standardized suitable for the current era, which is a preservation and continuation of Khab Lan dance for the existence of the community. and results of the study of roles of Khab Lan dance found that the Khab Lan dance in the tradition of the Thai Lom community has a role and value in terms of education , tools for social gathering, mental attachment , local media. In addition , there is also value to local society and external society in terms of living conditions, Thai traditions and values.
