Adjustment of Women to Single Mothers under the Patriarchy Ideology

Abstract

The objectives of this paper were 1) to study the role of women in single motherhood 2) to study the adjustment of women to be a single mother 3) to study the problems and obstacles of women in being a single mother, this study was qualitative. The researchers used data gathered through collective observations and in-depth interviews 14 key informants were analyzed, differentiate into issues using descriptive and analyze the data according to the purpose of the study under the concept of women and femininity, concept of motherhood, concept about single mother, concept of patriarchal ideology, concept of adaptation to make it possible to systematically link the content that collects the issues. The results of a study on the role of women in single motherhood revealed that single mothers have six roles is 1) the duty to fulfill the needs of biological members. 2) the duty to respond to the needs of members emotionally 3) the duty to produce new members for the society 4) the duty to determine the status of the person 5) the duty of raising the new member 6) the duty of controlling sexual relations and family 7) the duty in building economic and social status. As for the results of the study on adaptation and adaptation problems of single mothers, it was found that single mothers had 3 characteristics of adaptation and adaptation problems is 1) physical aspect caused by stress 2) coping aspect and automatic response to problems. 3) the use of mental defense mechanisms.
