Restricting Freedom of Opinion and Expression in Thailand

Freedom of opinion and expression is universally recognized in the international law and internal law as the fundamental right and freedom that is cornerstone of democracy system but the freedom is not absolute right so the state has the power to restrict its. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights 1966 provided the principles of restrictions that recognized and applied to legal documents including the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand 2017. However, the state authorities used the power is unlawful in many cases and cause the conflict. This article aims to present the restriction of freedom of opinion and expression in Thailand which stimulate the state authorities must respect the freedom of opinion and expression and used power carefully by strict interpretation and provided by law that is minimum effect which can reduce the conflict that may happen in Thailand.
