Improving English Listening Skills through TED Technology : A Study of Listening Strategies and Attitude towards TED Application of Fourth-Year Undergraduate Students in Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University

The aim of this study was threefold: firstly, to investigate the techniques used by 4th-year undergraduate students in the English program at Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to enhance their English listening skills using the Technology Entertainment and Design application (TED); secondly, to evaluate the English listening proficiency of the same group of students; and thirdly, to assess their opinions regarding the TED application. The sample group comprised 33 students from the aforementioned faculty in the academic year 2021. The research employed the English listening ability test, a questionnaire to assess students' views on the TED application and a survey to examine students’ listening strategies to enhance their listening skills. The statistical measures used in the analysis were mean and standard deviation.
According to the study, it was found that the fourth-year undergraduate students who were enrolled in the English program, faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University utilized high-level listening strategies, such as listening again to understand the message (x = 3.97, S.D. = 0.87), paying attention to nonverbal cues like facial expressions, tone of voice, and eye contact (x = 3.73, S.D. = 0.96), and concentrating on keywords that the speaker emphasized or repeated (x= 3.59, S.D. = 0.97), respectively. The study also revealed that the students had excellent English listening skills. Additionally, the students had positive feedback on the TED application.
