Abstract

This research aimed to 1) Study the context and culture of wheel weaving in Ban Wang Aab Chang, Chiang Khan District, Loei Province. and 2) the restoration process of the Pha Lau weaving culture of Ban Wang Arb Chang Community Enterprise group, Chiang Khan District, Loei Province. The target group were 22 informants, including knowledgeable and weavers. Interviews, focus group conversations, and meetings were research tools for data collection. The qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis, whereas quantitative data were descriptive statistics. The results were as follows. 1) Pha Lau is Wang Arb Chang village culture inherited from ancient times. On the fabric, patterns are imprinted using Kep Khid technique. One to three weavers weave the five designs of Pha Lau in five to fifteen days. Pha Lau is a bed covering material intended for special occasions that has not been woven for over eight decades. Therefore, the group desires to restore Pha Lau weaving to preserve and make revenue for the members. The revitalization process of Pha Lau Culture consisted of (1) exchanging and learning Pha Lau culture, (2) finding way for revitalization guidelines of Pha Lau Culture, (3) participating with community, researchers, and government sectors in planning, (4) implementation of revival, (5) following-up and evaluating the revitalization processes by members and networks, and (6) developing Pha Lau as needed by the target group.
