Abstract

This article aims to study the composition structure of the Phra Mongkol Wisetkatha sermons, written by Somdet Phra Maha Samanachao Krom Phrayawachirayanwarorot, used in the reign of King Rama V. The results show that the composition structure of the Phra Mongkol Wisetkatha sermons consist of five major structures as follows: uttes, aramphakatha, nittes, patinittes, and nikhomkatha. These structures occur especially with the scriptures at the utthakatha tier.  Moreover, these structures reveal the tradition of interpreting Buddha’s teachings by applying the old structures of Dhamma content interpretation and clarification of the interpretation and clarification in the form of a sermon. Finally, the results confirm that the author’s composition structure is well-suited to the Royal Ceremonies.
