Abstract

The Gomin folk drama (Lakhon Nok) is a traditional Thai theatrical performance influenced by the Chinese historical novel Fengshen Yanyi (Hong Sin). Adapted to suit Thai social and cultural contexts, it developed a unique identity within the Lakhon Nok tradition. The episode Gomin Khanong portrays the protagonist’s bravery, determination, and moral virtues while conveying ethical lessons. This research aimed to: 1) investigate the historical background and development of Lakhon Nok performance in Gomin Khanong, 2) analyze its performance forms and components, and 3) transmit the dance movements to first- through third-year undergraduate Thai Dance majors using the KSAT Teaching Model for Global Citizenship. This qualitative research employed document analysis, expert interviews, and field observations. The findings indicate that Gomin originated from the Chinese historical novel Hong Sin, which was adapted into the Thai literary work Gomin as narrative verse found in Wat Ko literature. The theatrical components consist of lyrics, musical melodies, instruments, costumes, stage props, dance movements, and distinctive staging procedures that reflect the unique characteristics of Lakhon Nok. Furthermore, the results of the dance transmission process using the KSAT Teaching Model for Global Citizenship indicated that students were able to perform the dance movements accurately and demonstrated the highest level of satisfaction with the learning process (M = 4.52 on a 5-point Likert scale). The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the instructional model in integrating Thai performing arts skills with 21st-century skills and the concept of global citizenship, promoting analytical thinking, respect for cultural diversity, and an appreciation for cultural heritage. Ultimately, this model contributes to the preservation, transmission, and adaptation of Thai cultural wisdom within a global context.
