THE SOLUTIONS OF DANCE RESEARCH PROBLEM: THE THINKING PROCESS AND LANGUAGE USE

Abstract

          The research paper on “The solutions of dance problem: the thinking Process and language Use” is a part of the objectives of this research project on “Dance Research: research process problems and solutions” are to analyze the problems originated from the process of dance research in tertiary-level Thai dance and to propose preventive measures and academic solutions to these problems. The principal research methods employed were the research methods in humanities which consist of the interviewing of instructors in subjects relating to Thai Dance research in five tertiary institutions, namely, Chulalongkorn University, Srinakharinwirot University, Bundit Pattanasilp Institute, Bansomdej Chaopraya Rajabhat University and Ramkhamhaeng University, and the analyzing of a total of 100 undergraduate dance research works.

            The research findings revealed that the most important problem in Thai dance research involves the thinking process and language use of the undergraduate students who conducted the researches. This problem with researchers can be divided into eight aspects: 1) the limited scope of knowledge and inquisitiveness; 2) ineptitude to integrate available data; 3) language irregularity; 4) the use of speaking language in the conducting of research; 5) incoherent, meandering and repetitive presentation of data; 6) limited vocabularies; 7) insufficient descriptive details; and 8) spelling errors. The solutions recommended by the researcher include improving students’ fundamental language use skills, promoting students’ systematic thinking skills by instructors and promoting students’ research experiences by having them study the works of other researchers more extensively and review their own research to ensure that it meets the acceptable academic standard.
