Abstract

This research aimed to synthesize the history of Pattani and to create a performance series using the qualitative research methodology including surveys, interviews, observation and focus group discussions. The results of the study revealed that 1) Pattani was a port city and a vassal of the Kingdom of Siam; it was a common practice for a tributary state to present Bunga Mas as a symbol of suzerainty to Siam and the peaceful relationships between the two political entities.  Bunga Mas became an important channel that established peace in society.  The significance of Bunga Mas has inspired the researcher to create a dance series entitled “Tari Bunga Mas.”  2) The researcher has envisioned the actors to represent gold and silver flowers (Bunga Mas) featuring the utilization of flower hairpins to stick at the base of tree to become the silver and gold flowers.  The highlight of the show is the holding of the flowers and the base of the tree which reflects the beauty of the flowers.  In addition, the dance utilizes musical elements derived from the melody of music used in the lower South of Thailand.  Costumes for dancers were designed to be as close as possible to a similar fashion with the past by wrapping the shawl around the chest.
