Developing an Elderly Basketry Community Enterprise through Participatory Knowledge and Local Wisdom Transfer in Nam Ko Subdistrict, Lom Sak District, Phetchabun Province

Abstract
This research aims to: 1) study the context, potential, problems, and needs regarding the development of community enterprises for elderly basket weavers; 2) develop a participatory process for transferring knowledge and local wisdom to enhance the group's potential; and 3) compare the knowledge of participants before and after participating in the project. The target group for this research consisted of 27 members of the elderly basket-weaving group in Nam Ko Subdistrict, Lom Sak District, Phetchabun Province. The research was conducted using a participatory action research design. The research instruments included semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. Quantitative data were analysed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while qualitative data were analysed using content analysis.
The study found that: 1) The elderly weaving group possesses strong knowledge and skills in weaving inherited from local wisdom and demonstrates strong cooperation among members. However, they face challenges in product development, marketing, and the transmission of knowledge to younger generations. They express a need for skills development in product design, group management, and online marketing. 2) The participatory knowledge and local wisdom transfer process -- comprising collaborative planning, knowledge transfer, practical training, knowledge exchange, and follow-up -- resulted in collaborative learning among members and enabled them to apply the knowledge to product development. 3) A comparison of knowledge before and after participating in the project showed that participants had an average knowledge score of 5.41 before the project (S.D. = 1.32) and 8.59 after the project (S.D. = 0.97). The average score after the project was higher than before, demonstrating that the participatory knowledge and local wisdom transfer process can effectively develop the knowledge and potential of the elderly weaving group members.
