Archaeological evidence of Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra) in the middle of Viang Chiangmai

Abstract

This research paper aimed to study the archeological artifacts found at Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra)'s excavation units, Chiangmai province and to study the development of the land usage at Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra). Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra) was built in 1873 A.D. Measured by Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory (AMS measurement), the results indicated the age of prehistoric samples at 348 +BP, approximately the 21st - 22nd Buddhist century. The study showed that most archaeological artifacts were pieces of roof tiles, followed by daily used equipment. The artifact used in this study was burnt rice. In addition, the Chinese ceramics founded also dated in the 19th-22nd Buddhist century. According to the archeological evidence, the development of the land usage in Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra), Chiangmai province could be divided into three periods: 1) before Lanna, 2) during Lanna, and 3) contemporary usage during the Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra) period. The cultural evidence was found in the second and the third layers. This archeological evidence could be grouped into periods: before Lanna and during Lanna, dating to the 24th-25th Buddhist era. The usage of land during the Khum Chao Burrirat (Maha Intra) and its construction was found in the second layer, which was during the mid-25th Buddhist era.
