Abstract

This research is a mixed method design, adopting quasi-experimental research with one group pre and posttest design and qualitative study. The data was collected from 39 samples between March to May 2018. The data was collected from a demographic data questionnaire, an integrated learning activity in arts and culture, and a cultural competence assessment tool. Reliability was examined by Cronbach’s alpha coefficients (α =.89), and a focus group discussion guide. Data analysis was based on descriptive statistics, paired t-test and content analysis. The assessment of students’ cultural performance found that before and after integrating arts and culture in teaching and learning, students have increased their cultural competence with a statistically significant difference at .01 level.

The results of this study conclude that the integration of arts and culture with teaching and learning can develop cultural competencies of the learners, resulting in more understanding of cultural differences.
