Abstract

Digital sociology is a critically important field for studying contemporary society, as digital technology has become embedded in every aspect of human life. When appropriately applied, the knowledge and concepts of digital sociology can help build a strong, stable, and sustainable society. Therefore, this article aims: (1) to examine the key concepts of digital sociology, (2) to explore the fundamental principles of digital sociology, and (3) to investigate models for applying digital sociology to social development. The study draws on documentary sources, including books, research reports, theses, academic articles, and research papers. The findings indicate that: (1) the key concepts of digital sociology include the creation and use of technology, data exchange and communication, behavioral change, the formation of online societies, the relationship between technology and society, and digital governance and ethics; (2) the key principles of digital sociology include understanding and analyzing the impacts of technology, developing policies and laws, building a sustainable and beneficial society, addressing social problems, and ensuring access and equity; and (3) models for applying digital sociology to social development encompass multiple dimensions, including social and cultural, economic, political, environmental, innovative, educational, health, and smart city development. This study is significant for deepening understanding of the role of digital technology in society, particularly in the context of Thailand, which is advancing social development through digital policies. It supports the formulation of policy directions and strategies to promote equity and sustainability in the digital era.
