Developing Chinese Character Recognition and Writing Chinese Characters by using Elementary of Chinese Character Practice Workbook for First-year Students in the Bachelor of Arts Program in Chinese for Communication, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the development of Chinese character recognition and writing using Elementary of Chinese Character Practice Workbook and 2) study the satisfaction of students towards Elementary of Chinese Character Practice Workbook. The sample group consisted of 42 first-year students in the Bachelor of Arts Program in Chinese for Communication, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, first semester, academic year 2024. The research instruments included Elementary of Chinese Character Practice Workbook. The data collection instruments included a Chinese character dictation test and a student satisfaction measurement form towards learning with Elementary of Chinese Character Practice Workbook, which was a 5-point rating scale with 10 items. The statistics used for data analysis included percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The research results found that 1) students had developed their ability to remember and write Chinese characters as follows: 1st time, score 74.81%; 2nd time, score 79.46%; 3rd time, score 79.87%; 4th time, score 81.16%; 5th time, score 87.58%; 2) students had high levels of satisfaction with the Elementary of Chinese Character Practice Workbook. The research suggestions from this study can be used to develop Chinese language teaching in terms of vocabulary, reading and writing in the future.
