The Value Added of The Prisoners and Ex-convicts Under The Quality People Project

Abstract

This study aims to study the problematic situations and solutions for raising the value of prisoners and ex-convicts under the brand Quality People Project, and studies the appropriate approach to building acceptance of the ex-convicts. The research was conducted in 2 phases: Phase 1 are data collected by questionnaire and in-depth interview. The key informant are prisoners who have received the Quality People Project, prisoners’ relatives, executives, prison officers, and the social and citizens’ sector. Phase 2 is taking the results of Phase 1 studies to create a proposal for raising the value of prisoners and ex-convicts before putting them into practice. The results of phase 1 revealed that the Quality People registered by the Department of Corrections with the Department of Intellectual Property in 2015 and given to 728 prisoners who have been selected as a mark of recognition has more positive effects on good people productivity than negative ones. They feel self-esteem and improve themselves until they become good people even though they had made mistakes. Also, this brand is a warning sign for the prisoners not to repeat the same mistake, they dare to wear the brand, including relatives, executives, prison officers, and social and citizens’ sector mostly agree that the brand Quality People is a very important sign for building trust in society. Thus, this brand should be granted to other people and publicized continuously. The results of phase 2 found that the approach to raising the value of prisoners was to improve the treatment of prisoners since entering the prison such as prisoner classification in order to formulate the proper sentence plan for each inmate, using the recidivism risk assessment of prisoners who are under the good people project and encouraging the prisoners to have jobs by focusing on Quality People Project as the center so as to live in a society with value. When the model was put to trial in the prisons, it was found that it was important and necessary to provide education and occupational advice for good people, Anyway, the social sector should open up occupational promotion areas to create opportunities for ex-convicts under the Quality People Project group has returned to society in a sustainable way.
