The Creating Performance Youth Awareness Raising to Environmental Quality of life.

Abstract

The creative performance called “Human, Trash and Sea” was created based on the intention to raise awareness of quality-of-life development in terms of environment quality among the youths; the content of the performance therefore emphasized how to make the youth audiences realize and aware to develop their quality of life in the aspect of nature and environment. The performance is a part of the quantitative – creative research which the researchers conducted literature reviews, questionnaires and interviews. The key informants of the research were 30 high school students in Phuket province.
The performance called Human, Trash, and Sea is the fantasy played with the main theme to express about sea trash problem by Thai society, which is the critical factor that affects environmental quality, marine resource, human health and hygiene. The script, songs, melodies, props, costumes and settings of the play were all newly created. The duration of the play is 45 minutes long consisting of 5 scenes from the story as follows: 1) Introduction to the Sea Trash Problem, 2) Amazing Thai Sea – the Abundant Marine Resource, 3) The Blue Sea Destroyer – the Effects of Trash to the Sea, 4) Extinction – the Marine Environment Ruined by the Sea Trash, and 5) Reflection – Human Health Caused by the Sea Trash. The T – test Dependent was employed in comparing the awareness level of the audience before and after watching the play. The result revealed that the average awareness in the effects of sea trash on marine resource and environment of the target youth audience before watching the play were in high level, 73. 42% (x̄ =3. 67); whereas after watching the play, the average of awareness level and realization in environmental problem rose to 90. 33% (x̄ = 4. 52).
It can be concluded that the Creative performance, Human, Trash, and Sea, could be a satisfying way to raise awareness of the youths in protecting and developing marine environment by integrating the useful content of environment protection from the performance in their daily lives. Moreover, this creative performance could be the role model for private sectors and government agencies to host and organize environmental protection campaigns or activities to raise people’s awareness in the local society and country.
