Lover: The Creation of Video Performance from Thai Postmodern Literature

Abstract
The video performance “Lover” is the creation from the performance research project entitled “The creation of video arts performance from Thai postmodern literature “Lover” by Win Lyovarin”. Its objective is to find approaches to create a performance from postmodern literature using video as tool. This project is a performance research that employs practice as research as its methodology. Its conceptual framework includes postmodernism and performance. The creative process consists of 7 steps: (1) analyzing character and literature; (2) determining approaches to performance and images; (3) selecting images and filming performance; (4) editing and arranging footages; (5) choosing words to accompany footages; (6) designing soundtrack, and (7) presenting the video performance to public. The results suggest that the conceptual framework plays an important role in the way of making performance. The performance footages present: feelings played by performer; actions and movement of performer; the object’s performance; and performer working with objects as sign vehicle interpreted from literature. It is presented with perspectives through different techniques in filming and editing as aiming to stimulate audience’s perceptions and feelings.
