Abstract

This research aims to: 1) study the life skills necessary for children and adolescents to prevent and reduce violence; 2) examine and develop the quality teaching and learning model for life skills using the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs); 3) investigate and analysis the outcome of implementing the life skills teaching and learning model using MOOCs; and 4) evaluate the life skills teaching and learning model using MOOCs. The key informants included 10 experts in the quality of the educational research, the basic education, the life skills, child support and help care, and educational technology selected through purposive sampling. The sampling was 500 middle secondary school students affiliated with the Basic Education Commission selected by stratified random sampling. The research tools included; 1) a questionnaire on the life skills necessary for children and adolescents to prevent and reduce violence, 2) the model and its manual, and life skills MOOCs Lesson, 3) a life skills achievement test, and 4) an evaluation form for the model. Qualitative analysis employed content analysis and triangulation was employed to ensure the validity of the data analysis. Quantitative analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Dependent Sample t-test.

Research result showed that: 1) the life skills that necessary for children and adolescents to prevent and reduce violence include love and self-awareness and others, pride in oneself and others, human rights democracy, and active behavior and usefulness; 2) The MOOCs model include three useful groups, four main components, and three supporting effects with 15 units of online lessons. The efficiency results and process efficiency scores were 82.08/80.14 that was higher than criteria 80/80; 3) the student’s achievement scores after was higher than before at the significant level 0.01; and 4) the life skills model for preventing and reducing violence among children and adolescents was suitable in the high level.
