Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 2) examine the level of community participation toward conservative agro - tourism attractions of Baan Bang Plub Community, Samutsongkram Province, 2) explore community knowledge and understanding concerning the development of conservative agro - tourism attractions, and 3) identify problems, obstacles and recommendations for developing conservative agro - tourism attractions. This mixed method research was conducted with two sample groups, including members of community living in Baan Bang Plub Community and stakeholders in tourism. The qualitative method was undertaken through in-depth interviews with five stakeholders, while quantitative data collection was carried out with 92 heads of household, obtained through stratified random sampling.


             The findings revealed that: 1) the level of community members’ participation in Baan Bang Plub Community, as a whole was at a medium level. The majority of community members participated at the highest level in terms of Participating for Benefits; 2) Knowledge and understanding of community members toward the development of conservative agro - tourism attractions, as a whole were at a high level, and 3) In terms of problems, obstacles, and recommendations, community members need to preserve the local way of life. This included traditions, customs, local culture, and community wisdom. The unnecessary presence over the traditional values would make local contingencies. The research results also identified the additional support for improving conservative agro - tourism attractions, namely public relation to increase homeland awareness among youth, promotion for young tour guide, maintaining clean, safe and beautiful environment and atmosphere in communities and surrounding areas. The public sector should also realize the importance of providing additional budget support as so to improve popularity, for example public relations through social media.
