Development of English Reading Comprehension Kits by Using KWL Plus Technique for the 6th Grade Students

Abstract

The objectives of the research were 1) to develop English reading comprehension kits by using KWL Plus Technique for the 6^th grade students to have the efficiency based on the standard criterion of 80/80 and 2) to compare the students’ reading achievement before and after using the kits. The research was conducted as an experimental research. The samples used in this research were the students studying in the 6^th grade in the second semester in the academic year of 2022 from 3 schools: one room from one school in a total of 3 rooms; 10 students from Bannonkhunsansuk School, 10 students from Banpapok School, and 10 students from Bankokthiam School. All of 3 schools were in the Non Sombun network, Na Chaluai District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The samples were randomized by cluster sampling. The research instruments were 6 sets of the English reading comprehension kits by using KWL Plus Technique for the 6th grade students and a multiple-choice achievement test with 30 items for reading comprehension. The statistics used were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test.

The research findings were as follows.

1.  The efficiency of the English reading comprehension kits by using KWL Plus Technique for the 6^th grade students were 83.05/82.44 which met the standard criterion of 80/80.
2.  The English reading achievement of the students learning by using the English reading comprehension kits by using KWL Plus Technique for the 6th grade students after learning was higher than that before learning with the statistical significance at the level of .01.
