A Study of the Needs of the Learning Management Based on STEM Education for the Teachers Under Office of the Basic Education Commission

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to study 1) learning management based on STEM education for the teachers under Office of the Basic Education Commission and 2) the needs of the teachers’ competency on learning management based on STEM education working in the schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. The variables studied were the teachers’ competency on the active learning management based on STEM education consisting of 5 components: 1) teachers' knowledge on the targets of the teaching STEM education, 2) teachers' knowledge on the STEM education curricula, 3) teachers' knowledge on the students' understanding, 4) teachers’ knowledge on the instructional strategies of the teaching STEM education, and 5) teachers' knowledge on learning assessment. The samples were 468 school representatives from the project on driving learning management for the primary school teachers under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in the Northeastern region. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The statistics were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the priority needs Index.
The research findings were as follows.
- 1. The current conditions of the teachers’ competency in the active learning management based on STEM education for the teachers under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in the overall were at a moderate level while the desirable conditions of the teachers’ competency in the active learning management based on STEM education for the teachers under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in the overall were at a high level.
- 2. The needs of the teachers in the active learning management based on STEM education under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in the overall organized from the largest to the smallest were that the teachers’ knowledge on the targets of the teaching based on STEM education, the teachers’ knowledge on the students’ understanding, the teachers’ knowledge on the instructional strategies of the teaching STEM education, the teachers’ knowledge on learning assessment, and the teachers’ knowledge on the STEM education
