8 GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPING WORK SKILLS TO CREATE INCOME GUARANTEES FOR THE ELDERLY IN THE FUTURE: NAKHON SAWAN PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the work skills of the elderly according to the needs of business establishments or employers in Nakhon Sawan Province and develop guidelines for developing and improving work skills to create income guarantees for the elderly in the future. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with 30 key informants, including managers or representatives of business establishments employing the elderly, selected from business establishments employing the elderly. The data were also collected through a focus group discussion with 20 representatives of business establishments, experts, and related agencies, selected by purposive sampling from those with knowledge, expertise, and experience in hiring the elderly. Data were analyzed using content analysis. The research results revealed that the work skills of the elderly according to the needs of business establishments or employers in NakhonSawan Province consisted of technological skills, service skills, various professional skills, and experience transfer skills. As for the guidelines for developing and improving work skills to create income guarantees for the elderly in the future, business establishments or employers should organize training; government agencies and educational institutions should organize training projects for the elderly on necessary skills; and the elderly should study further to develop various skills on their own.
