An Analysis on The Values of Samantapasatika’s Based on Buddhist ETHICS

Abstract

The objectives of this article were as follows:: 1) to study the
background, structure, essence and values of Samantap„s„dik„; 2) to search the Buddhist Ethics and Its values, and 3) to analyze the values of the
Samantap„s„dik„ based on the  Buddhist ethics. This is a qualitative research, accompanied by documentary research and in-depth interviews with the Buddhist experts.

The results showed that: 1) The Samantap„s„dik„ is a Pali Vinayaís commentary work which explains the principles and rules to be practiced in the
Vinaya. Its structure and essence are as follows: Mah„vibhangvaṇṇan„,
Bhikkunivibhanggavaṇṇan„, Mah„vaggavaṇṇan„   Cũlavaggavaṇṇan„ Pariv„ravaṇṇan„.  The Samantap„s„dik„ is of values in various aspects such as on the history, on the customary, on the Buddhist teaching methods, on the  Vinaya Pitaka studies, on the arts and cultures, on Thai Sangha Education and on the Doctrinal interpretation. Whereas  Samantap„s„dik„ has clearly explained the principles and related various events that will help to understand the Buddhaís rules in the Vinaya Pitaka. 2) On the Buddhist Ethical philosophy, it provides the perspectives on the values ​​of different things, both subjectively and
objectively. It is based on the lifestyle of a person which relies on the Buddhist Moral Doctrine being as a criterion to judge the values ​​that are right and good in order to higher upgrad the behaviorís values.  The criterion for determining the value of the Samantap„s„dik„ in accordance to Buddhist ethics is its own unique set of rules, prohibitions and practical advice. In a judgment of Buddhist ethical values, the relativism is applied having been mainly based on conditions such as intentionality, its resutants, and its effectiveness.
3) An analysing the value of the Samantap„s„dik„ based on Buddhist ethics is found the criteria for judging the observance of Teaching and Discipline which are  recognized as being  almost  accurate standards  to offort  the value in  creating justice in the Sangha community. They offered a justice towards those who being accused of violating the rules will be judged without any discrimination. In addition, the relations between person to person, a preson to society according to the various observances such as Upajjh„yavatra, Saddhivih„rikavatra, etc., as having appeared in Samantap„s„dik„.
