An Analytical Study Of Offering Woven Fabric In Buddhist Ritual And Tradition Of Ban Pa Bong Thai Yuan, Mae Khue Sub-District, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research are:  1) to study history and background of weaving fabrics in the way of life of Thai Yuan, Ban Pa Bong, Mae Khue  Sub--District, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai  Province, 2) to study  beliefs,
doctrine, and practices in offering woven fabrics in the Buddhist rituals and traditions of Thai Yuan, Ban Pa Bong,  and 3) to analyze the offering woven fabrics in the Buddhist rituals and traditions of Thai Yuan, Ban Pa Bong.  It is a qualitative research by collecting data from documents, and interviews.

Here are the findings: 1) Thai Yuan  in Ban Bong has got a cultural identity that is weaving fabrics handed down by learning, training until they were skillful from generations to generations. They live their lives on weaving fabrics to family all along and their woven fabrics were high admired and regarded as the communityís good item. 2) The giving Dana is the basic regulation that the Buddhists should follow. The
offering of cloth was evident in the Tipitaka scriptures. It is based on the faith which consists of the excellence of the foundation for merit, the excellence of the gift, the excellence of the intention, the excellence of extra virtue and Giving, Morality, Mental Development. Thereby the giving shall bear fruits in the level of mundane and the super mundane level. And 3)  Thai Yuan in Ban Pa Bong considered that the weaving fabrics for donation in the rituals and traditions is the great merit accumulation in their lives. With this faith it causes them to motivate a perseverance in merit accumulation and also the source of way of life learning as same as the local wisdom preservation and  the ancestorís way of weaving fabrics.
