A Study of The Volunteer Monks’ Propagation of Buddhism Towards Hill Tribes Mae Chaem District Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research entitled “A Study on the Guidelines of the Volunteer Monks’ Propagation of Buddhism Towards Hill Tribes, Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province” aims to 1)  to study the propagation of Buddhism in the  mountainous areas 2) to study the propagation of Buddhism by the hill tribe volunteer  Monks  in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai. 3) to propose the guideline on propagation of Buddhism towards the hill tribes in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai. This  is a documentary research with the help of in-depth interview from the 15  Local  Key Informants. All data will be analyzed by content analysis.

The findings are as 1)   in the guidance on propagation of Buddhism in the mountainous areas, the Volunteer Monks have to focus on the the six major Buddhist Mission according to the Great Elder Association. 2) in the  propagation of Buddhism by the hill tribe volunteer  Monks, it was found that the volunteer monks  use the technic of  participatory learning by organizing workshops, learning activities  with local  organizations such as Temples, Schools, Communities and other Agencies.   The effectiveness of the propagation erects the religious groups those became in Buddhist. They observe the 5 precepts in their  daily lives. 3) in the propose the guideline on propagation of Buddhism towards the hill tribes, it was found that the  hill tribe volunteer monks works  the proactively, that is he has  to go first, sacrifices and shows the dedication for the benefits of the people, the   support of the people and for the happiness of the people.
