Lanna, Beliefs and the Ways to Create Interdisciplinary knowledge of the westerner Scholars

Abstract

The article was compiled from the research entitled ìLanna, Beliefs
and the Ways to Create Interdisciplinary knowledge of the westerner Scholarsî Its objectives were to: 1. Lannaís belief on the perspective of westernersí writers 2. the roles and ways to create interdisciplinary knowledge of the westerners in Lanna and 3. the analysis of the perspectives of the westerners on Lannaís belief and ways of life as well as their roles and ways in creating interdisciplinary knowledge. The documents and interview forms were used as a tool for this study. Moreover, two interviews with a digital voice recorder were done by the researcher. The research results were as follows:

1. Six aspects of Lannaís beliefs and ways of life on the westernersí view according to Konrad Kingshill  and  Reginald le May were selected by the researcher. However, the belief of spirit or supernatural power was hidden in each aspect.  2. Dr.Hans Pent played an important role on inscription works and he also used interdisciplinary knowledge to achieve his goal such as discovering a method how to remove black lacquer without damage to the object, applying linguistics with the other fields such as archeology, history and geography. Daniel McGilvary and his friends used interdisciplinary knowledge such as sciences, medicine and education for their missionary work. 3. Konrad Kingshill and Reginald le May gave the information according to the experience they had or by interviewing the people in the community. What they wrote in the book was sometimes partially correct, for example the firs precept was written as I reverently promise not kill animals  and the third precept was written as 
I reverently promise not to follow lustful love. These are incorrect according to the real teaching in Buddhism.
