THE COMPARISON OF MATHEMATIC LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN CALCULATING VOLUMES OF GEOMETRIC SHOPES BETWEEN TEACHING WITH THE TGT AND STAD TECHNIQUES FOR PRIMARY 6 STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: In today's mathematics education, most teachers use lecture-based teaching methods, creating a learning atmosphere that does not sufficiently engage students, resulting in low academic achievement. Currently, there are teaching techniques that can increase students' motivation to learn mathematics, such as group-based learning techniques, including Team Games Tournament (TGT) and Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD). These cooperative learning techniques may enhance students' academic achievement. Objectives: To compare students' mathematics achievement before and after learning with the TGT and STAD techniques, and to compare the learning achievement between students taught using the TGT technique and those taught using the STAD technique. Methods: The sample group consisted of Grade 6 students from Joseph Wittaya School, Tha Mai District, Chanthaburi Province, during the second semester of the 2023 academic year, totaling two classrooms, selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments included lesson plans using the TGT and STAD techniques and an academic achievement test. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test analysis. Results: The study found that students who learned using the TGT and STAD techniques showed a statistically significant improvement in mathematics achievement at the .05 level. Additionally, when comparing the two groups, there was a statistically significant difference in their learning achievement at the .05 level. Conclusion: Learning through the TGT and STAD techniques fosters student participation, enthusiasm, and a positive learning atmosphere, contributing to the enhancement of students' academic achievement.
