The Expression of Belief Through a Korat Folk Song Performance in Context of a Votive Offering

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study a Korat folk song performance in context of a votive offering, roles of a Korat folk song performance in context of a votive offering and value definition of a Korat folk song performance in context of a votive offering. The study was a qualitative research obtained by In-dept interview and Non-participant observation of 3 target groups with 27 persons in total; 1.Professional, 6 persons; 2.Mo Phleng (singer), 9 persons; and 3.Votive offeror, 12 persons. 

Roles of a Korat folk song performance in context of a votive offering are; 1. A role that is inherited from the past and still performs today, to analyze individually, performing Korat folk song promotes Mo Phleng a concentration, aptitude and healthy body. To analyze according to a community, Korat folk song performance passes on a local wisdom, reflects an identity of a community and promotes having a career for local people. And to analyze according to social, Korat folk song performance is a key to studying history. 2. An unfolding role that existed in the past which still exists but not all the same, to analyze individually, performing Korat folk song gives listeners an aesthetic and entertainment. To analyze according to a community, it is the center of the minds of people in the community. And to analyze according to social, it helps people in the community share a good conscience. 3. The missing role that were specific to the past but no longer exist at present, to analyze individually, Mo Phleng are cultural leaders. To analyze according to a community, it disseminates information to people in a community. And to analyze according to social, it is cultivation of social value. 4. A role that has not happened in the past but happens at present, to analyze individually, it is mental refuge in times of crisis. To analyze according to a community, it promotes tourism in community and in Nakhon Ratchasima province. And to analyze according to social, it helps in expanding network with educational institutions and raise the level of being a national artist.
