A Study of Parents’ Roles in Supporting Emotional and Social Competence of Preschoolers in Meesook International School Bangkok

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study parents’ roles in supporting emotional and social competence of preschoolers in Meesook International school (pseudonym) in  4 aspects: environmental arrangement, communication, guidance, and self-development. Samples were 108 parents of preschoolers studying in K 1-3 at Meesook International School Bangkok. Research tool was questionnaire. Cronbach’s alpha is 0.91. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean score, and standard deviation. Research findings were as followed: Parents’ roles in supporting emotional and social competence of preschoolers in all aspects were at a high level (  M= 3.76) S.D. = 0.96 Environmental arrangement was the highest mean score ( M = 4.01) S.D. = 0.96, followed by guidance (  M= 3.89) S.D. = 0.83, communication (  = 3.80) S.D. = 0.91, and self-development ( M= 3.34) S.D. = 1.21, respectively.
