Contemplative Education: the Ancient way of Learning in a new World
Contemplative Education, influenced by the western world, is an educational concept that has been greater studied and applied in academic works and various human development settings in Thai society now, but this concept evolved from the authentic practices of Buddhist meditation and amazingly differ from the concept of Buddhist-based education and school in Thailand. It is interesting to consider and study more profound in its detail. Essentially, Contemplative Education is really to focus on the way of practice which promotes personal awareness, mindfulness, intuition and liberation from the domination of thought and encourages people to loving kindness towards each other. Therefore, it is necessary to appropriately apply the concept and practice of Contemplative Education to some situations for much more each learner’s intellectual maturity and spiritual growth. The result can cause a movement of thought and action to social changes in good or greater quality and also well morality. This article presents the concepts, principles, practices, learning outcomes and assessment of Contemplative Education, in which people who are interested may understand and apply for their own application setting and style.
