Abstract

With the significant increase in demand for Chinese language learning in Thailand, Chinese education has gradually become an important part of foreign language teaching in the country. However, the existing Chinese teaching materials are mostly translated from general textbooks used in China, which tend to cater to the Chinese teaching model and lack consideration of the language acquisition characteristics of Thai learners in a cross-cultural context, resulting in limited practical teaching effects in Thailand. This paper proposes compiling teaching materials based on an analysis of Thai learners’ linguistic, cultural, cognitive, and psychological characteristics. These materials should align with Thailand’s actual conditions and incorporate China-Thailand cultural comparisons to meet the contemporary needs of Thai students. The paper suggests breaking away from the traditional “language-based” concept in the compilation of teaching materials, strengthening the integration of language teaching and cultural teaching, providing teaching content suitable for Thai learners’ cultural background and real-life situations, enhancing learners’ cross-cultural communication skills, and promoting the localization of Chinese education in Thailand.
