Abstract

This article aims to present the meaning of development education that varies according to the education and development issues. Knowledge in development education is dynamic which includes the knowledge as part of educational fields, knowledge in connection with social science, and knowledge focusing on studying critical development. These will lead to a synthesis of knowledge in development education to link to sustainable development, which consists of the origin of knowledge in development education to evolve to modernization, knowledge in development education to pose questions about development, and the linkage of knowledge in development education to sustainable development. Finally, recommendations are provided for a paradigm shift in development education for sustainable development in terms of both knowledge, methodology, and learning with the aim to achieve development that creates participation, economic and social equality and sustainability.
