Abstract

          The purpose of this study were to examine: 1) the school administrators’ attributes and professional attitude of teachers in community schools; 2) the community participation in educational  management; and 3) the influence of school administrators’ attributes and teachers’ professional attitude on the community participation in educational management. The sample consisted of 123 administrators, 310 teachers, and 123 chairmen of school boards of schools under Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. The sample was derived by stratified random sampling as distributed by positions. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire with the reliability of 0.86. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.


         The research results were as follows:


  1. Overall and in specific aspects, the school administrators’ attributes was at a high level. The aspects raking in the descending order were social background, job style, social attributes, intellect and ability, physical characteristics, and personality. Overall, the teachers’ professional attitude was at a highly positive level.

  2. Overall and specific aspects, the community participation in school management was at a high level. The aspects in the descending order were participation in benefits, participation in evaluation, participation in operation, and participation in decision-making.

  3. Overall, the school administrators’ attributes in the aspects of intellect and ability (X1.3) and teachers’ professional attitudes (X2) had an influence on and together predicted the community participation in educational management (Ytot) with the statistical significance at .01 level. According to that relationship, the coefficient of prediction (R2) was 0.30. These showed that the school administrators’ attributes in the aspects of intellect and ability and teachers’ professional attitudes together predicted the community participation in educational management at 30 percent.
