THE CREATION OF THAI CONTEMPORARY DANCE IN THE CONCEPT OF FRONT AND BACK

Abstract

          The objective of this thesis is to create dance performance and discover concepts on creating contemporary dance under the concept of front and back. The research methodologies are creative and qualitative research. Additionally, data was collected from documents, textbooks, interviews of individuals related to the research, information media, field survey, seminar, observation, criteria on artist standard and experiences of the researcher. Such data was analyzed,synthesized, tested, amended and summarized the findings.

           According to the findings, the creation was analyzed for finding questions of the research and discussing the results based on 5 important concepts as follows; 1) concept of Front and Back performance, 2) creativity, 3) diversity of performance, 4) focus on theory and concept of postmodernism, and 5) focus on symbols for communicating in the performance.

           The dance performance was held in two days with 323 participant among whom were performing art luminaries, dance professionals, teachers, students and General audience, it was found that 80% is satisfied. However, the important issue being discussed is the design of location which is not interpreted clearly. Therefore, the researcher will apply it to the suggestions for further researches.

           This research meets all questions based on all components of the research of Thai contemporary dance under the concept of front and back. As a result, such performance will be the data for creating Thai contemporary dance in the future. This research is a part of “THE CREATION OF THAI CONTEMPORARY DANCE IN THE CONCEPT OF FRONT AND BACK” a dissertation of Doctor of Fine and Applied Arts Program Chulalongkorn University.
