บทคัดย่อ

The objective of this study was to analyze the traditional knowledge about the social and cultural indigo dyed fabric of Phu Tai in different three countries; Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. The traditional knowledge included 1) a form of indigo dyed fabric and 2) the dying process of fabric using indigo.
The findings were as follows : 1) The ingredient to produce fabric in Laos and Vietnam was cotton whereas in Thailand Rayon was used. 2) Concerning the fabric patterns
it was found that in Vietnam the fabric produced using needle and clout but weaver with loom used to produced the fabric in Thailand and Laos. 3) For the dying process in Thailand
used Indigofera suffruticosa M. (Pods : sickle-shaped)and Vietnam used Indigofera suffruticosa M. with Hom, however; in Laos Indigofera tinctoria L.(Pods : cylindric) was used.
Then mixing with the ashes for different colours. The rationals behind the above differences were the socio-economic and political factors. Since the Phu Tai in Thailand and Laos used
indigo dyed fabric for cultural product while in Vietnam was used only for tradition and ritual.
