THE MODEL CREATION OF DANCE REPRESENTING THE USEFULNESS OF THE JEWEL BEETLE’S WINGS AND ECONOMIC VALUE-ADDING PROMOTING THROUGH THE PERFORMANCE

Abstract

The research titled “The Model Creation of Dance Representing the Usefulness of The Jewel Beetle’s Wings and Economic Value-Adding Promoting through their Performance” aimed to 1) search for the value and the importance of the jewel beetle’s wings, 2) search for a model and elements of creative Thai Dance performance which conveyed to the usefulness and the economic value-adding of the Jewel Beetle’s wings through the performance, 3) find the efficiency of the creative Thai Dance performance on the creativity, suitability and satisfaction of the audience. The researcher applied both qualitative and creative research procedures using the research tools such as a survey and study on the academic paper and documents, interviews, informative media, site survey together with the researcher’s own experience, then gathered all obtained information to analyze for establishing the model creation of dance representing the usefulness of the jewel beetle’s wings and economic value-adding promoting through performance. The research found that;                                                                                                                                                                                    1.The shape and the color of the jewel beetle’s wing was very beautiful, outstanding and permanent. HM Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother considered the idea to make accessories from the jewel beetle’s wings. She then royally assigned the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand to adapt the jewel beetle’s wings into accessories and promote them as art handicrafts in Thailand and other countries.                                                                           

2.The creative model could be divided into 8 performing elements such as 1)the design of performance which was divided into 3 parts: the 1^st part presented the aesthetic values, the 2^nd part was depicting the intelligence, and the 3^rd part was implying  to the economy value, 2) the audition for performers which considered from the physical appearance and the performing skills according to the Thai Dance and the conservative performance, 3) the choreography which was to imitate the gestures and the behavior of jewel beetle in nature as we imagined and combined with the contemporary Thai dance movements, 4) the design of performing tools that iridescent green cloths were used as a sign to refer to the jewel beetle’s wing, 5) the design of sound and performing music, the music was from combination of Thai music and international music together with electronic musical instruments, 6) the design of costume that referred to modern costumes and focused on showing of accessories made from the jewel beetle’s wings. Thus, the costumes in white color were selected and weaved according to the art theory and the body movements, 7) the design of stage that considered to the relationship between the choreography, deploying, lighting management to create the proper performance, 8) the design of lighting that perfected the atmosphere in the performance and improved the emotion, feeling and imagination of the audiences.                                                               

3.The evaluation from 6 qualified committees was conducted.  The efficiency on the creativity was at the “highest”level with the means was at 4.53, the SD was at 0.59 and the comments from the qualified committee toward the performance’s suitability and satisfaction was at the “highest” level with the means was at 4.56 and the SD was 0.57.
